The 2024-2025 fee for a 46-60 minute consultation as recommended by the Australian Psychological Society is $311 (click here to view the APS Schedule of Recommended Fees 2024-2025).
However, at ASK Psychology, we strive to provide accessible psychological support with fees ranging between $230-$250 per session.
Medicare rebates apply if you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan/ GP referral.(Please read below for rebates).
You may visit your GP and ask to be assessed for a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP). If you are, they will provide you with this MHTP and can refer you to us. The referral can be directed to ASK Psychology. Referrals sent via email is preferred. Alternatively, you may bring the hard copy along to your first session.
Please ensure that your MHTP is signed and dated by your GP and must state the number of sessions you are being referred for (up to a maximum of 6 sessions in any single referral).
Following these initial six sessions, you may visit your GP and request a Mental Health Review to determine whether you qualify for an additional four sessions.
In total, a MHTP enables you to access 10 Medicare rebate-able sessions in a calendar year.
As of 1 July 2024, medicare rebates under a MHTP are as follows:
$141.85 per 50+ minute individual consultation with a clinical psychologist, or $96.65 per 50+ minute individual consultation with a registered psychologist.
Unfortunately, we do not bulk bill. This means there is an out- of- pocket gap fee (i.e., the difference between what we charge and the Medicare rebate). Please feel free to contact us if you would like further clarification regarding the fees.
If you do not hold a Medicare card (i.e., you are an overseas student or overseas worker covered by OSHC or OVHC) you may still be entitled to the Medicare rebate with a MHTP from your GP. Please contact your insurance provider to clarify this with them.
You do not need a referral to make an appointment, and you can self-refer. However, you will not be eligible to receive a Medicare rebate. If you have a Private Health Fund, you may be able to claim a rebate from them if you are covered for this. The rebate would depend on the company rebate policy and your level of insurance coverage. It is advisable that you contact your private health insurer directly to determine the exact rebate you are entitled to for psychology consultations.
If you are already seeing a psychiatrist, they will be able to refer you to us. Please discuss this with them. The referral can be directed to ASK Psychology. Referrals sent via email is preferred. Alternatively, you may bring the hard copy along to your first session.
We accept clients who are NDIS Plan-managed or self-managed. Clients who are self-managed will be required to pay for their sessions in advance and can then claim a reimbursement from NDIS using the receipt provided. Alternatively, we may be able to provide you with an invoice to make a claim following which you will be required to make payment to us for the session.
Clients who are on NDIS Plan- managed will be required to get their support coordinator to contact us regarding their client, what they are being referred for and the number of sessions they are entitled too. Following each session, a copy of the invoice will be emailed to the support coordinator for payment via bank transfer.
Please feel free to contact us. We look forward to hearing from you!
