David Khouri

Registered Psychologist

 BA(Psych)(Hons), MPsych(Professional), BEng(Mech)(Hons), BCom(Mgt)

David is a registered Psychologist with multiple years of experience in treating children and adolescents aged 9 and above, as well as adults, couples, groups and families.

David’s therapeutic approach is eclectic, which means he uses a wide variety of evidence-based interventions such as CBT, DBT, Trauma-informed Approach, Narrative Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, and Schema Therapy.

David generally likes to use a combination of cognitive (thoughts), emotional and behavioural interventions, focused according to the client’s needs, preferences, self-identified goals, and strengths.

David is aware that starting therapy can be a daunting process. He recognises there must be a balance between empowering the client and having a framework and direction to maximise the therapeutic potential of each session. To maintain this balance, he frequently ‘checks in’ throughout the course of the therapy to determine whether it is meeting his client’s expectations and needs. He places a high value on building and strengthening the therapeutic relationship through empathy and validation to promote feelings of safety, security and feeling heard and valued. David also likes to encourage and utilise a ‘strength-based’ approach.

A former engineer, David has a strength in delivering evidence based therapeutic methods combined with an empathic and person-centred approach which places the client’s needs at the front and centre.
