A Mental Health Treatment Plan is a referral from your GP which allows you to receive a Medicare rebate for up to ten sessions in a year.
Yes. We also accept referrals from the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), Workers Comp and Insurance Commission of Western Australia (ICWA). If you are already seeing a psychiatrist, they would be able to refer you as well.
No. You can book an appointment on your own (i.e., self-referral). However, you will not be eligible to receive a Medicare rebate. If you have a Private Health Fund, you may be able to claim a rebate from them if you are covered for this. It is advisable that you contact your private health insurer directly to determine the exact rebate you are entitled to for clinical psychology consultations.
You can visit your GP who will assess if you are eligible for a MHTP. If you are, they will provide you with this MHTP and can refer you to us.
Please ensure that your Mental Health Treatment Plan is signed and dated by your GP and must state the number of sessions you are being referred for (up to a maximum of 6 sessions in any single referral).
If you are already seeing a psychiatrist, they will be able to refer you as well. Please discuss this with them.
All referrals can be directed to ASK Psychology. Referrals sent via email to reception@askpsychology.com.au is preferred. Alternatively, you may bring the hard copy along to your first session.
If you do not hold a Medicare card (i.e., you are an overseas student or overseas worker covered by OSHC or OVHC) you may still be entitled to the Medicare rebate with a MHTP from your GP. You will be required to pay for the session in advance and then claim from your private health insurance with the receipt provided. However, we strongly encourage you to first clarify this with your insurance provider.
Unfortunately, we do not bulk bill. This means, there is will an out-of-pocket expenses (a gap fee) even with the Medicare rebate. Please feel free to contact us if you would like further clarification regarding the fees.
With a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP), you are entitled to 10 sessions per year. Your initial MHTP will provide you with six sessions. After this 6 sessions, you will be required to visit your GP again to obtain a Mental Health Review. This will provide you with the remaining 4 sessions.
This varies on a case-by-case basis; and we discuss this together during our first session.
Psychologists are unable to prescribe medication. This would be something to discuss with your GP or psychiatrist.
We are located at Unit 1, 18 Parry St, Fremantle WA 6160. Street parking is available in front the building.
Yes! Telehealth sessions are conducted over the phone (audio-only), or via zoom or facetime (for audio and video). Just let us know ahead of your session if you require it to be telehealth. You will still be able to claim a Medicare rebate for a telehealth session.
Please email through your patient’s MHTP to reception@askpsychology.com.au, and we will give your patient a call to book an appointment. Alternatively, please fill out your patient’s details on the online booking form (with their consent), and we will call them.
Seeing a psychologist for the first time is a huge step for anybody, and will no doubt bring with itself a whole range of intimidating emotions (You are not alone!). To help you through this process, we can have an initial brief 10 min chat over the phone to see if this is something you would like to explore. You are not obliged to book a session at the end of the phone call. For this brief phone chat, you may leave a text message at 0468 402 868 or email reception@askpsychology.com.au with your name and number.
Mondays to Fridays 9am – 6pm
Very limited Saturday appointments. Please check with us.
Please note that sessions after 5pm and on Saturdays incur a $20 surcharge.
